DON’T miss out on the Elan Valley’s Dam Open Day taking place on Tuesday, July 27, where guests will get an exclusive chance to venture into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower.

Join the Elan Valley rangers who will give you a bird's-eye view of the dam wall and teach you about the feat of engineering that made Elan.

Park at Penbont car park and take a walk through the woodland, up the steps to the dam entrance. “The walk from the car park will take between 10-20 minutes; please factor this into your travel to the dam to ensure that you arrive within your chosen time as we are unable to accept late-comers,” said a post on the Elan Valley website.

“If you feel that the access through the woodland to the dam is not suitable for yourself/a member of your party, please speak to a member of staff at the lower car park. They will be able to direct you if appropriate to a small space at the top of the dam that allows easier access.

“Due to Covid-19 social distancing regulations, numbers inside the dam have to be restricted; queuing may be expected so please be patient with us. You may be asked to wait before entering the dam and we may need to limit your time inside the structure. Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance to the dam.

“Please be aware that there are steps inside the dam which may be wet and in some areas there are low light levels and narrow corridors. Children should be carefully supervised at all times. Dogs are welcome on short leads.”

Entry for the tour is £5 for adults and £1 for those aged 16 and under, with half of all proceeds going to the Elan Valley’s chosen charity WaterAid. Tickets must be bought in advance; there will be no option to buy tickets on the door.

Please print or download your confirmation/ticket beforehand as there is no signal at the dam and you will be required to show evidence of booking.
