THE latest episode of Powys’ hottest new podcast is out, which is ironic as the show’s sixth episode is entitled ‘Too hot to handle’ in light of this week’s heatwave.

The Ewe-Turn Podcast has been set up by three friends from the Radnorshire farming community. But if you think this is a show tailored specifically for farmers and everything agriculture, don’t be too hasty.

The podcast is the brainchild of friends Ben Chilman, Ted Davies and Nick ‘Nog’ Rogers, all of whom have farming ties to the Presteigne area. Although the agricultural community is touched on in each two-week episode, the idea for the podcast was born out of raising awareness of mental health. Each of the trio have admitted they struggled with their mental health during the various lockdowns brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, and they wanted to smash farming stereotypes that people in the industry are too tough and impervious to struggles with depression and isolation.

After launching in May, the podcast welcomed Emma Picton-Jones of the DPJ Foundation on to their fourth episode last month. Mother-of-three Emma created the foundation in 2016 following the death of her husband Daniel. The agricultural contractor took his own life having suffered with mental health issues his whole life, and she wanted to improve mental health awareness among farmers in Wales.

The lads have a Facebook group which has close to 1,000 followers and promoted the new episode, new for Royal Welsh Show week, by saying: “This week Nog gets caught with a stiff one on the common, Ted gets let loose on a tractor again for his latest mishap and Ben is left red faced when he FaceTime's the wrong person.”

Ben, the baby of the group at 21, is at Harper Adams studying agriculture with farm business management. Ted, 26, juggles farming at the family home with his job at McCartneys, and has played rugby for Builth Wells; while 27-year-old Nog also farms at home and is a Presteigne and Norton town councillor.
