A MOUNTAIN rescue team in the south of Powys had a busy Tuesday (June 29) evening when they were called out to assist police with an injured walker and a missing person.

The second callout for the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team involved a walker who had sustained a leg injury while walking on Mynydd-y-glog mountain in the Cwm Cadlen area of the Brecon Beacons, near Nant Ddu.

The team were contacted by South Wales Police and the male was located. After treatment to his leg he was carried by stretcher to a 4x4 vehicle and driven to hospital.

The second call of the evening preceded assistance requested by Gwent Police earlier following a report of missing 60-year-old man Glyn Griffiths from the Caerphilly area.

“Yesterday evening as our involvement with the search for Glyn Griffiths began scaling down for the night, we were contacted by South Wales Police to rescue a male walker with a leg injury on Mynydd-y-glog mountain in the Cwm Cadlen area of the Brecon Beacons,” Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said in a Facebook post.

“Some team members remained on the search to finish some search areas while the others left the search to go to the injured young male.

“Using forestry roads to gain close access to the casualty site, the gentleman and the members of his group where soon located. After treatment to his leg he was carried by stretcher to our 4x4 response vehicle and driven out of the forestry for onward journey to hospital.

“The remaining members of the group were escorted by team members out to the roadside on foot.

As can be seen by the photos, even on a warm, clammy summer’s evening we’re still required to continue wearing our Covid PPE.

“Last night, that same PPE also provided necessary protection from the incessant insects and midges. We of course wish the gentleman a full and speedy recovery.”
