PRESTEIGNE'S three investment clubs held their first joint Zoom training meeting last week.

Many members felt that they'd like to improve their investment knowledge and skills so, with Presteigne's own David Lindsay as guest speaker, a basic tutorial on investment terminology, research techniques and discussion on what kind of portfolio to aim for were much appreciated by those members who attended.

The border town is in a unique position with three such clubs set up here. The town had great cause to celebrate in January 2017 when it became the only town in the UK to have not one, but two investment clubs.

The then newly-formed Marches Investment Club met that month at the Radnorshire Arms Hotel and held its inaugural meeting, with Leigh Harling-Bowen, from nearby Norton, elected as the club's first chairman. It joined the long established Presteigne Investment Club (PIC) and has since been joined by the Presteigne Ethical and Green Investment Club.

Each club is required by law to have no more than 20 members in their group. Presteigne Investment Club and Presteigne's Ethical and Green Investment Club members each subscribe £25 per month, while Marches Investment Club members invest £30 per month. This money remains yours – subject to the ups and downs of the stock market.

Would you like to join, but feel that you don't know enough about investing? No problem. Some of our members do know a lot, but many don't. If you'd like to learn more about share ownership, with a minimal exposure to risk, then why not consider joining one of the investment clubs?

There are also social activities two or three times a year during non-coronavirus times. Monthly meetings are held via Zoom but, historically, have been either at the Royal Oak, the Farmers or the Radnorshire Arms.

All three investment clubs remain full to the legal capacity with 20 members each. However, to be put on the waiting list for membership, or to find out more information about any of the clubs, contact Jonathan Wilson on 01544 260800 or email ajonathanwilson@aol.co.uk.
