RAIL services from Machynlleth to North Wales have resumed following flooding and subsequent damage caused by Storm Christoph last week.

Transport for Wales Rail announced earlier today (Tuesday, January 26) that the Machynlleth to Pwllheli line had reopened after being shut for almost a week.

Flooding last week had caused chaos in Powys, closing the railway through the county, with Transport for Wales highlighting issues between Machynlleth and Dovey Junction in particular. Road flooding meant there was no replacement bus service.

Transport for Wales Rail tweeted at 8am on Tuesday morning: “Public address loudspeaker Update: Following #StormChristoph the following lines have reopened:

Train Machynlleth – Pwllheli. Train Chepstow – Cheltenham Spa. Please check your journey before travelling.”

It was update following an announcement on Monday that the fallout from Storm Christoph meant some lines remain closed, including Machynlleth to Pwllheli.

On its website, Transport for Wales Rail said: “Due to Storm Christoph some lines will remain closed.

“Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog will remain closed until further notice.

“The Heart of Wales will remain closed until further notice. Rail replacement travel has been arranged.

“Remember that services are in place for Essential Journeys ONLY.”
