WYESIDE Arts Centre chiefs are looking for a new chair of the board of trustees to guide the venue through these challenging times.

Current interim chair Maureen Mackenzie is stepping down from the role in March and those at the Builth Wells arts centre are looking to recruit an experienced leader who has a passion for the arts, to support board and general manager.

“We welcome applications from individuals with experience of governance and with the commitment, qualities and attributes to effectively lead our organisation,” said a Wyeside spokesperson.

“We face challenging times ahead while having an ambitious redevelopment plan to ensure a sustainable future for Wyeside.”

The role of chair is a voluntary, unpaid, non-executive appointment. The commitment required is approximately four days per month, including: chairing four formal board meetings per year; serving on key committees, including the Wyeside Works redevelopment project; representing Wyeside with the general manager at important strategic meetings and supporting a number of Wyeside events.

In addition, Wyeside is also on the lookout for new trustees. “We are looking at the future regeneration of our board and would like some more people to join us,” added the spokesperson.

“We wish to expand our expertise and inclusivity in the areas listed, and welcome applications from people who are both passionate about the arts and feel they have skills to offer us.”

Wyeside bosses are looking for people who may speak Welsh, younger board members, they are keen to work with young people who are in education, and anyone who may have marketing or project management experience.

The trustee position is also voluntary and unpaid. The board meets four times a year (usually at the arts centre but currently virtually), and there are supporting committees of which a trustee would usually be involved with at least one. The total time commitment required would be approximately one-two days per month.

Previous experience of being a trustee is not necessary. You can find out more about the role of a trustee on the Charity Commission website at www.gov.uk.

If you are interested in either of these roles, contact Jill Mustafa via email on generalmanager@wyeside.co.uk, adding ‘chair recruitment’ or ‘new trustees’ to the subject line, telling them about your experience for either position.

The closing date for both positions is Monday, February 1, 2021, and virtual meetings with candidates are to be held mid-February.
