IT HAS been a bitterly cold start to 2021 and ongoing coronavirus restrictions aren’t doing anything to warm the mood – but it’s nice to know people’s sense of humour haven’t completely frozen over.

Someone took this snap of weather warning road signs in Wales – not only reliably highlighting the fact there are hidden hazards of ice on the road early in 2021, but also confirming they must be a fan of cult 1990’s American rapper Vanilla Ice.

The three signs cleverly make reference to the famous and much beloved early 90s hip hop track ‘Ice, Ice, Baby’ by the one-hit wonder – real name Robert Van Winkle.

Powys County Council's Highways, Transport and Recycling Service posted the picture from their Facebook account, writing “Someone's got a sense of humour” and adding a vanilla ice cream cone emoji.

The Powys team revealed the picture was borrowed from a Twitter user’s account based in Tywyn, near Machynlleth, although when contacted she revealed the picture was not hers and she had no idea where it was from.

Powys County Council communications and marketing officer Katie Williams said: “The image of the ice signs on the HTR Facebook page was taken from Twitter – it caught the attention of the team, made them smile and they thought they would share the joke with our residents/followers.

“We could all do with a little light relief at the moment. However, we don’t believe the photo originates in Powys, although it is obviously Welsh.”

We have not been able to work out where in Wales these hazard warning signs are placed, but the fact the writing is bilingual surely suggests they have to be somewhere in the country, while the LD151 mark on the lamppost in the picture might ultimately reveal its secret location.
