SAM Cooke is the new captain of St Giles Golf Club.

The Newtown club’s annual drive in ceremony took place earlier this month with past captain Stuart Humphreys passing the baton to the newly appointed Sam Cooke who served as vice captain during 2023. 

The handover ceremony included Stuart presenting Sam with the coveted captain’s tie, followed by Sam’s heartfelt welcome speech. 

In his address, Sam outlined his ambitious plans and hopes for the upcoming captaincy, promising an exciting and inclusive journey for all club members.

This pivotal event also introduced the club’s new leadership team with Matthew Jones taking on the role of vice captain and Andrew Stanley stepping into the position of senior captain. 

The trio, led by captain Sam Cooke, represents a formidable force that aims to drive the club to new heights in the coming years.

The annual drive in was witnessed by an enthusiastic crowd of members and guests, followed by a 9-hole Stableford competition which was fittingly won by Cooke with 22 points with Wayne Trigg second on 21, beating Dean Gillet on the countback.
