A woman died after a crash on the Newtown bypass earlier this week, police have confirmed.

Dyfed-Powys Police have said they are investigating the crash which took place on Tuesday (April 23).

The crash involved three vehicles and saw multiple emergency teams in attendance – leaving the road closed for nearly 12 hours.

A spokesperson for he force said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating a three-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at about 1.35pm, Tuesday April 23.

“A lorry and two cars were involved in the collision on the A483, Newtown bypass, between Dolfor roundabout and Kerry Road roundabout.

“Sadly, the female driver of one of the cars died at the scene.

“Next of kin has been advised and our thoughts remain with them at this sad time.

“The road was closed and reopened just after midnight.”

The crash has left damage to the barriers along the A483. Traffic Wales confirmed yesterday that there will be a 30mph zone in force along a section of the Newtown by pass while repairs can be made.

In a statement online they said: “"Due to damaged barriers on the A483 between Kerry Road roundabout and the Dolfor Road roundabout, there will be a 30mph limit set for drivers safety.

"An update will be posted once the works have been completed."
