A man who twice kicked a police officer after calling him a Nazi in front of children while drunk and disorderly outside a bus station has been sent to prison.

Vasile Branzas was given one last chance last April to prove he could stop offending after he was given suspended sentences for delivering crack cocaine and heroin to Llandrindod Wells as a favour for a friend.

Police also found extreme animal porn and indecent images of children on his phone.

The 47-year-old Romanian national was back at Mold Crown Court on Monday, March 25, for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to assaulting PC Benjamin Betts and being drunk and disorderly outside Warrington bus station.

Staff had phoned police just before 8pm on January 20 this after they became concerned about Branzas' "erratic and rude" behaviour.

Agitated and abusive, Branzas screwed up his dispersal order and there it on the floor before calling one of the officer's a Nazi.

He then grabbed a trolley and went through the doors of the station telling police to "f*** off". While Branzas was placed in handcuffs after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly, PC Betts was twice kicked in the knees. Branzas was then placed in leg restraints and placed inside a police van.

OTHER NEWS:

Recorder Jones told the court that Branzas' pre-sentence report was "sad to read". He said: "Here's somebody who's got a drink problem that he doesn't accept that he has".

Branzas' barrister Miss Price said the 47-year-old was honest about his alcohol use.

"It is an issue that he, and perhaps the public as a whole, would benefit from him addressing," she said.

"Despite a very difficult situation since the disposition of the suspended order he has nonetheless engaged with probation, and they are willing to support him in the progress he has made so far. To his credit he’s got here from Warrington.

"Many defendants in his position wouldn’t have done so. He engages regularly with probation. While appointments have been missed, there are no unacceptable absences.

"My submission is the just cause of action is to impose more onerous requirements and alcohol requirements which would give him credit for the engagement he has made so far and hopefully build the progress he’s made; with optimistic hope he would be helped by probation, and they would continue to help him look for accommodation and gain benefits."

County Times:

Branzas, of Warrington, was handed two eight-month concurrent sentences for twice breaching his suspended sentence, and four months for assaulting a police officer.

Recorder Jones said: "You were extremely lucky to get those suspended sentences in April 2023. You would have been warned no doubt at all if you committed any more offences.

"Not only were you given a bunch of suspended sentences but you also later, even on a suspended sentence, you committed offences of drunk and disorderly.

"This is not a standalone offence of that kind. To make it worse this is not the first time you’ve assaulted an emergency worker. People who do that job serve the public. They don’t deserve violence inflicted on them just for doing their job.

"There is nothing unjust to activate these sentences. I impose the shortest sentence that I can."
