WELCOME to another edition of bygones.

We have been inundated with lovely comments from our beloved readers since the launch of our new nostalgia section.

It seems Powys County Times readers love nothing more than sitting back and sharing memories of years past.

Appreciating the past is something which binds us all together as people and hopefully we can continue to entertain our beloved readers as we venture back to 1977.

The year is best known for Star Wars opening in cinemas, the first Apple II computers going on sale, the first commercial flight of Concord, the death of Elvis Presley and the New York City Blackout.

OTHER NEWS:

Closer to home it was Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee year and The Clash released their first album during April at the beginning of the punk rock music era.

The Clash, a British band, were one of the first punk bands to achieve commercial success. Band members included Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Nicky Headon.

The band reached the pinnacle of their success in 1979 with the release of their album London Calling.

To underline the challenges facing people getting on the housing ladder today compared to 1977 the average house price back then was just £11,251 compared to a wholly unaffordable £263,600 today.

Meanwhile life continued to potter along in Powys.
