Two schools have already confirmed they plan to close on Thursday (February 8) as snow threatens to sweep across northern Powys.

Ysgol Llanfyllin's closure has been confirmed on Powys County Council's schools portal as being closed for the day, citing "adverse weather" for the decision.

And Welshpool High School told parents via social media platform X, formerly Twitter, that it intended to close for the day.

"We have been informed that due to the weather forecast for tomorrow No School Transport will be running," the school's statement said.

"As a result of this decision and to ensure the safety of all students, families and staff members, we have taken the decision to close the school. Learning will be available via Google Classroom.

"We are hopeful that school transport will be available again on Friday 9th February and that the school will be open as per normal."

The message is signed off by headteacher Jon Arnold.

School buses have already been cancelled across Montgomeryshire in anticipation of the snow, which is predicted in the form of an amber weather warning from the Met Office.
