Barry Town Utd 1 Newtown 1

NEWTOWN were forced to settle for a point as a resolute Barry Town United held firm to secure a place in the Europa League play-offs on Sunday.

The Robins took the game to their hosts from the opening whistle and led with the first real opening of the game on 15 minutes.

Ryan Kershaw dispossessed Lewis Cosslett to break from midfield and release Ethan Jones to slot under an advancing Mike Lewis.

Newtown continued to dominate possession but Barry weathered the storm and hit back on 38 minutes when Jon Hood cut inside from the left to curl a low show beyond goalkeeper Dave Jones.

Newtown looked to restore their lead with a positive start to the second-half yielding a missed headed effort from Luke Boundford before Kieran Mills-Evans was denied by Lewis from close range.

Ryan Kershaw drilled wide before Alex Fletcher twice fired wide of target as the Robins continued to dominate.

A speculative 20 yard volley from Boundford shook the upright with Lewis rooted with 10 minutes remaining while the Robins also had strong penalty appeals for handball late on.
