Caernarfon Town 2 Guilsfield 0

Guilsfield became the latest victims of the Caernarfon Town juggernaut as the Canaries remained on course for the title with a deserved victory at the Oval.

The Canaries took the game to the villagers from the start with Gareth Evans and Clive Williams going close while Danny Brookwell probed the visiting defence from the first whistle.

However the Guils almost led against the run of play on 26 minutes with Jack Harris toiling for a breakthrough only to fire wide under pressure from goalkeeper Alex Ramsay.

Caernarfon heeded the warning and led four minutes later with Brookwell’s incisive throughball releasing Darren Thomas to slot past goalkeeper Andy Wycherley.

Guilsfield enjoyed much more possession at the start of the second-half but struggled to find a way through the home side’s defence.

Caernarfon also threatened with Thomas’ lob beating Wycherley only to dip just wide of the target with ex-Llanidloes Town striker Jamie Breese looming.

Caernarfon settled the contest by doubling their lead on 65 minutes with Brookwell’s assured finish past Wycherley.

Guilsfield continued to toil but the home side came to dominate midfield with Nathan Craig and Jamie Crowther pulling the strings while Gareth Edwards impressed in defence.

Harris continued to toil for a breakthrough and was denied by a last ditch tackle from Clive Williams late on as the Guils left the Oval empty handed while the Canaries took another major step toward the Huws Gray Alliance title and promotion to the J D Welsh Premier.
