Flint Town United 0 Caersws 1

CAERSWS kickstarted their campaign with a battling victory at Flint Town United.

Caersws survived an early scare when goalkeeper David Jones was forced into action to tip away Andy Brown’s header.

However the Bluebirds led on 18 minutes with Lance Jones lashing home from the edge of the after after Flint failed to clear a corner.

Caersws continued to dictate the game and almost doubled their lead on 32 minutes with Luke Sherbon steering Elliot Jones’ cross just wide.

Whenever the Caersws defence creaked the outstanding Jones proved a steady presence with a fine save to deny Mark Cadwallader on the stroke of half-time.

Caersws dominated the second-half with Craig Harris denied a contender for goal of the season on 53 minutes only to see his 20 yard volley ruled out for an earlier infringement,

The chances kept on coming for Caersws with Richard Davies dragging wide before a 20 yard blast dipped just wide of the target.

Sherbon’s right wing cross was steered wide by Blenkinsop with the goal at his mercy before Caersws survived a late scare.

Jacob Lever’s speculative shot looked destined for the top corner only for Jones to produce another stunning save to ensure Caersws only their third win of the season.

Manager Graham Evans said: “It was a superb performance. We totally controlled the game and we never looked in any danger.

“It was very pleasing after the frustrations of all the cancellations but we were outstanding from the first to last whistle on Saturday.”
