Ruthin Town 1 Penrhyncoch 2

HARRI Horwood struck twice as Penrhyncoch cemented their Huws Gray Alliance status with victory over Ruthin Town at Bala.

For the second week in succession the Roosters travelled to Bala Town as Gari Lewis plotted another giant stride toward sealing survival.

Ruthin proved their own worst enemies on the day and undermined their comeback bid with two players seeing red late on.

The match burst into life early in the second-half following a goalless opening period played in sweltering conditions at Maes Tegid.

Horwood pounced on a loose ball in the goalmouth after goalkeeper Ryan Goldston’s fumble to give the Roosters the lead.

Ex-Bow Street star Garmon Hafal almost levelled for Ruthin only to see his header saved by goalkeeper Lee Jenkins.

Penrhyncoch doubled their lead shortly before the hour with Horwood again on hand to complete his brace after steering home Liam Lewis’ cross.

Ruthin rallied and reduced the arrears on 65 minutes with Kevin Evans heading beyond Jenkins.

However just two minutes later the Ruthin challenge faded when Will Ashley earned his second caution in as many minutes to receive his marching orders.

Just moments later Ian Hughes earned his second caution to leave Ruthin chasing the game with just nine men.

Despite their numerical advantage the Roosters found themselves hanging on as Ruthin laid siege late on with Jordan McCarter rattling the woodwork before Jenkins frustrated Llyr Morris.
