JD Cymru Premier
Aberystwyth Town 0 Newtown 1
MATTHEW Jones returned to haunt his former club with the only goal of the game as Newtown left it late to snatch a 1-0 JD Cymru Premier derby win at Aberystwyth Town on Tuesday night.
Newtown goalkeeper Andy Wycherley was called upon to deny Jack Thorn’s piledriver in the first real opening of the game after 15 minutes and was also tested by Ben Woollam’s long range free-kick in a tepid first-half.
It was a similar story after the break with chances at a premium.

The Seasiders should have led on 77 minutes when Iwan Lewis was denied by Wycherley with the loose ball turned over the bar by John Owen.
Newtown punished their hosts three minutes later as Jones volleyed past ex-Newtown goalkeeper Dave Jones from the edge of the area as the Robins bounced back from last weekend’s Welsh Cup exit.
