JOEY Price etched his name into Radnor Valley history with a final hat-trick as the Goats overcame a stubborn Abermule side to lift the MMP-NL Mid Wales League Cup on Friday night.

There had been nothing to choose the sides during a goalless first-half.

Dave Anthony tested Valley keeper Will Fowden while the Goats best moments saw Rees Morris round goalkeeper Danny Foulkes only to fire wide while Mule defender Rhys Stephens denied player-manager Elliot Morris with a fine tackle in the area after 31 minutes.

Abermule had a great opportunity to break the deadlock three minutes after the interval but Michael Humphreys struck his effort wide after Charlie Humphreys headed a deep free-kick into his path.

The New Radnor men finally broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Price successfully converted a penalty awarded by referee Aled Jones following an infringement.

The Goats thought they had doubled their lead five minutes when Laird diverted Jake Bufton’s low cross past Foulkes at his near post but Joey Price was deemed to be offside.

Abermule levelled the scores just a minute later when Charlie Humphreys headed home a cross from the left past Will Fowden at his near post.

Mule dominated and had their best spell of the game with Anthony denied by Fowden from close range before Tom Jones volleyed wide.

However the final’s fate hinged on the 77th minute dismissal of Ryan Jones following a rash challenge on Ieuan Price.

The match went into extra-time with Valley gradually getting on top as Tim Office fired wide from 25 yards before Elliot Morris headed straight at Foulkes.

Foulkes had no answer a low 20 yard free-kick from the left hand edge of the area as Price restored Valley’s lead and with Mule still reeling he completed his treble with his second penalty of the night.

Manager Elliot Morris said: “We are absolutely chuffed to finish the season with some silverware. I felt our consistency this season has deserved a trophy and we got we deserved in the end.

“It was not a great game by all accounts but I thought we deserved the win. Joey Price did not do to bad on his first game back from a broken leg either by scoring a hat-trick.”
