AFTER months of patiently waiting on the sidelines Berriew Women's Football Club finally hosted their first friendly match on Friday night.

Local rivals Welshpool Town provided the opposition and left Talbot Field 3-1 winners.

Coach Paul Inns was delighted the Rhiewsiders new women's side were finally off the mark after months of frustrations due to the public health crisis.

Inns said: "For many players, this was their first match.

"In a competitive match, Berriew acquitted themselves well and were unlucky to concede a last gasp goal as they pushed for an equaliser. It was a hugely enjoyable match."

The club is keen to welcome any new players for training sessions.

Inns said: "Ladies training will resume next season and all abilities, and all ages, are welcome to attend.

"The training sessions are a fun, social, light fitness session, please feel free to contact me if you’re interested in attending, we are always on the lookout for more players, and will be organising more regular friendlies and festivals next season."
