Montgomery 147-6 beat St Georges IIs 141 all out by six runs

ANDREW Barker led by example as Montgomery celebrated a thrilling six tun win at home to St Georges IIs in division two of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

The cheap loss of Tim Davies (3) and Alex Haycock (0) saw Barker joined by Aaron Ruff-Cock (18) in leading the home innings.

Joe Haycock (20no) joined Barker (75) in guiding Montgomery to 147-6 to defend.

Liam Dugdale (2-43) and Jagdeep Singh (2-30) claimed the wickets for the Saints with Matt Nutting (1-25) and Tom Griffiths (1-19) also chipping in.

Edward Bennett starred in reply and soon accounted for the cheap removal of openers of Joseph Nutting (2) an Austin Rowley (0).

Matthew Chesters revived the innings before being bowled by Sam Williams for 33.

Williams also celebrated the wicket of Fraser Watson (33) while Joe Haycock trapped Emrys Hughes LBW for 17 .

Williams (3-30), Bennett (3-14) and Haycock (2-30) were joined by Rob Yewdall (1-29) and Barker (1-11) in celebrating wickets to leave Singh (15no) and St Georges all out for 141.

The result eased Monty’s relegation fears in division two.
