AARON Williams cannot wait to get his Newtown Football Club career underway.

The 27-year-old completed his move from English non-league side AFC Telford this week - much to the delight of manager Chris Hughes.

Hughes said: "“Aaron is a player who has been on our radar for a while and I am absolutely delighted to have got the signing over the line,”

“His goal record in recent seasons speaks for itself and he is a really good lad who has already fitted into the dressing room extremely well.

“I am looking for Aaron to make a huge contribution in the coming months ahead and hope he can hit the ground running.”

Williams has represented Walsall, Peterborough United and Newport County in the English Football League while also helping Brackley Town to FA Trophy glory in 2018.

Spells at non-league sides Rushall Olympic, Nuneaton, Harrogate Town followed before a switch to Telford.

Williams said: “I am massively looking forward to getting started.

“I never expected that I would get the opportunity to play in one of the European competitions, so I can’t wait for that and also to test myself at JD Cymru Premier level for the first time.

“I’ve already met the lads and had a training session with them. They’ve been very welcoming and it’s clear to see already that there is some real quality within the squad."

Williams was also sure the 'Newtown way' of playing football would bring the best out of him.

He said: “The type of football that the team plays will really suit my game. It’s all about getting the ball forward quickly and I’d like to think that I will score goals here.

“Whenever I’ve been happy and enjoying my football, that’s when I have scored goals, so hopefully that will be the case here.

“Looking around at the facilities, everything here is geared up for progression. The playing surface is fantastic and as players, everything is there for us, so there can be no excuses.

“The vision of the club is exciting and I am delighted to be part of it.”
