THE draw for the first qualifying round of the JD Welsh Cup has taken place.

The return of the famous competition will be welcomed by clubs, players and supporters after last season’s edition was scrapped due to the global pandemic and the season before ended prematurely with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) opting to allocate a Europa League berth to Barry Town United.

Barry Town United remain holders of the competition courtesy of them winning the last completed edition.

Ties will be played on Saturday, July 10.

Among the ties of the round is Rhayader Town’s clash at home to Builth Wells and Brecon Corries’ home meeting with Carno.

The draw has been regionalised with the Central section as follows:

Aberaeron v Borth United; Abermule v Four Crosses; Brecon Corries v Carno; Dolgellau AA v Machynlleth; Hay St Marys v Knighton Town; Llansantffraid Village v Waterloo Rovers; Montgomery Town v Llanymynech; Radnor Valley v Presteigne St Andrews; Rhayader Town v Builth Wells; Tregaron Turfs v Penparcau; Tywyn Bryncrug v Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

Meanwhile the first qualifying draw of the Welsh Trophy has also taken place.

Ties will be played on Saturday, July 17.

Among the stand out ties is Montgomery Town’s home meeting with Welshpool Town and the derby at Llansantffraid between the Saints and Llanymynech.

Elsewhere Presteigne entertain local rivals Radnor Valley and Berriew host Waterloo Rovers at the Talbot Field.

The Central section is as follows: Bow Street v Borth United; Rhayader Town v Carno; Barmouth and Dyffryn Utd v Tregaron Turfs; Berriew v Waterloo Rovers; Dolgellau AA v Machynlleth; Hay St Marys v Caersws FC; Kerry v Four Crosses; Llandrindod Wells v Knighton Town; Llansantffraid Village v Llanymynech; Montgomery Town v Welshpool Town; Penparcau v Tywyn Bryncrug; Presteigne St Andrews v Radnor Valley.

The draw for the qualifying round of the Welsh Women’s Cup has also taken place with ties to take place on September 19.

Llanfair United entertain Wrexham and Welshpool Town bid to complete an upset at home to Airbus UK Broughton in the northern section of the draw.

Meanwhile Aberystwyth Town and newly-formed TNS have been handed byes to the first round.
