DOLGELLAU Football Club will be playing third division football next season.

The club's elevation was confirmed on Thursday evening as the Football Association of Wales (FAW) published news of its decision for the vacancy left following Montgomery Town's resignation.

It will see Dolgellau join local rivals Bow Street, Penparcau and Machynlleth in the Ardal North East League next season.

Club spokesman Stephen Parry said: "Everyone at the club are very grateful and appreciate the decision to offer us a place in tier three.

"It came as a pleasant surprise and when the call came, I thought initially that it was a hoax.

"The hardworking committee have made this possible and allowed the opportunity for local players to play at a higher level, albeit access this time was via the back door and our thoughts go to Montgomery.

" As the news was communicated, I, for once was lost for words, but an emotional moment."

Parry said the hard work now begins and hoped the townspeople would embrace supporting the club in the new Welsh League system.

"Now the work starts," said Parry. "Thank you to everyone involved in making this part of our dream come true.

"Hopefully the people and businesses of the ton will support us."

On the pitch the Cae Marian club has signed former Bala Town and Aberystwyth Town star Rob Evans.

Manager Owain Williams said: "“It is fantastic Rob has agreed to sign for his hometown club.

"I have been chasing Rob for over a year and it is great he has finally signed. Everyone knows what Rob has done in his career - playing and performing at a high level for the likes of Aberystwyth, Bala and Porthmadog, whilst also representing Wales.

"He will bring quality, professionalism and invaluable experience to this, already, talented squad.

"I can’t wait to work with Rob and see him play in the yellow and black colours of Dol. Croeso adra Rob."
