Flint Town Utd 0 Newtown 2

NEWTOWN closed the gap on seventh place with victory at Flint Town United tonight.

The Robins go into this weekend's clash with bottom of the table Cefn Druids within two points of Haverfordwest County in the race for a play-off spot.

Newtown started brightly as Cae-Y-Castell with Craig Williams and James Davies forcing Flint goalkeeper Jon Rushton into action while Jordan Evans also fired over.

The visitors maintained the pressure with Tyrone Ofori testing Rushton on 26 minutes and Lufumpa Mwandwe forced a save five minutes later.

The pressure told just before the break when Mwandwe was fouled on the edge of the area and the resulting free-kick from Williams was met by Evans.

Newtown doubled their lead six minutes into the second-half with another free-kick from Williams converted by Ofori.

Flint rallied with Newtown indebted to goalkeeper Dave Jones on the hour to deny Thomas Weir.

Newtown came close to adding a third with 12 minutes remaining with Davies crossing for Jamie Breese only for Rushton to prove equal to his effort.
