Haverfordwest County 1 Newtown 5

NEWTOWN kept their play-off hopes alive with a resounding victory over a stunned Haverfordwest County at Latham Park this afternoon.

With seventh placed up for grabs the Robins were the better side from the opening whistle with two goals from Lufimpa Mwandwe inspiring three points which were all but secured by the interval.

Newtown's best performance of the season began with Shane Sutton steering a headed effort over the bar from Craig Williams' right wing corner in the opening few minutes.

County had their best spell of the game soon after with Kieran Mills-Evans twice forced to make vital interceptions.

However the home side were soon in the ascendency with County goalkeeper Wojciech Gajda producing a stunning save to deny James Davies from close range.

Newtown led on 25 minutes with Tyrone Ofori turning to drill home a low shot beyond the reach of Gajda from 25 yards.

Four minutes later the Robins doubled their lead with Davies racing onto Ofori's low cross and while denied by Gajda the loose ball was pounced upon by Mwandwe.

Davies forced another save from Gajda as Newtown continued to dominate and added a third in injury-time with Sutton heading home Williams' corner.

Newtown began the second-half with Mwandwe released by Ofori to burst into the area on the left only to drag his shot agonisingly across goal.

Mwandwe was not to be denied and on 55 minutes the ex-Shrewsbury Town starlet burst through from the halfway line before rounding Gajda and slotting home Newtown's fourth.

Gajda was kept busy and twice denied Ofori before County reduced the arrears on the hour with Corey Shepherd's 45 yard shot catching goalkeeper Dave Jones in no man's land.

Newtown were soon pushing for a fifth with Davies twice denied by fine saves from Gajda before Jamie Breese followed up on a parried effort from Callum Roberts only to be ruled offside.

Newtown finally celebrated a deserved fifth with Davies squaring for Jordan Evans to ghost his way into the area before lashing past Gajda with five minutes remaining.

Davies continued to furrow for a goal his play warranted and broke through in injury-time only to be once again denied by Gajda.
