Cardiff Met 2 Newtown 2

NEWTOWN twice led in the capital but had to make do with a point as Cardiff Metropolitan hit back for a point.

The Robins enjoyed a dream start at Cyncoed with Kieran Mills-Evans steering home a 12th minute free-kick from Craig Williams.

However the home side were soon back on terms with Chris Baker restoring parity for the Archers after 23 minutes.

The remainder of the half proved a scrappy affair with neither side managing to create any clear openings.

However just before the interval the Robins restored their advantage with Lufimpa Mwandwe firing high beyond the reach of home goalkeeper Alex Lang.

Newtown had looked to build on their lead in the second-half against a Met side which has struggled for goals this season and went into the game second from bottom of the play-off conference.

Instead the hosts began brightly with Ollie Hulbert' shot deflected wide before Liam Warman levelled on the hour after surging clear of the Newtown defence to slot past goalkeeper Dave Jones.

The Robins were forced to endure pressure as Met came to impose themselves

Warman and Hulbert forced Jones into action before Brad Woolridge headed over the bar.

Newtown also had chances with Alex Fletcher and Jordan Evans testing Lang.

In the last embers of the game Hulbert breached the defence only to steer wide as Newtown held out for a hard-fought point in the capital.
