NEW Wales manager Gemma Grainger has included several mid Wales stars in her 26 player squad for forthcoming fixtures.

The new Wales women manager will take the helm for matches against Canada on April 9 and with Denmark four days later.

Grainger, who is less than a fortnight into her new role, said: “With the squad needing submitting only two days into the job, it was really important for me to utilise the existing staff from the February camp to select the squad.

“We want to play the higher ranked nations and there’s no better test as we look to prepare for the World Cup qualifying campaign and the next four years.”

Newtown raised Manchester United star Carrie Jones is joined by Llanidloes raised Cardiff City striker Maria Francis-Jones in making the cut.

Meanwhile Liverpool striker Ceri Holland receives her first full call-up after joining the squad halfway through last month’s training camp.

Yorkshire born Holland qualifies for Wales through her Oswestry born and Llanfyllin raised mother.
