IT HAS been a frustrating 12 months for athletes.

From cancelled events to a year of virtual coaching and not physically being on the track.

2020 was meant to be a big year for five members of the Newtown based Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club with the quintet set to represent Wales.

However the pandemic put paid to the events.

Welsh Athletics have ensured the athletes keep upbeat and the athletes have been given Welsh vests.

For Maddie Griffiths and Mackenzie McCourt it would have been their debut performances for Wales.

Deri McCluskey is an accomplished triathlete having already represented his country but this would have been a first in his athletics career.

Aled Breeze and Maddie Griffiths had meant to represent Wales at the London mini marathon and in Schools International Athletics Board (SIAB) events while Mackenzie McCourt was also due to run in the London mini marathon

Deri McCluskey and Callum Morgan were also supposed to represent Wales in the SIAB.
