Aberystwyth Town 0 Barry Town United 1

ABERYSTWYTH Town were brought back to earth with defeat at Barry Town United.

The Seasiders travelled to Jenner Park still on a high after their last gasp win over Haverfordwest County lifted them off them off the foot of the table last week.

However they survived a let off after 15 minutes when Jamie Bird struck only to be adjudged offside.

The home side continued to dictate the pace but struggled to force any clear openings in a first-half dominated by strong winds.

Late in the half a rare chance for Aberystwyth saw Jamie Veale blast wide of target as the sides ended the first-half inseparable.

Aberystwyth started the second-half on top with Harry Franklin forcing home goalkeeper Mike Lewis into action before Jack Thorn's deflected shot earned his side a corner and Owain Jones also lashed wide.

Barry endured and began to force their own openings with Theo Wharton testing goalkeeper Connor Roberts shortly before the hour.

Nathaniel Jarvis blazed over the bar from five yards five minutes later in the best chance of the game so far.

The match remained in the balance going into the final quarter with Veale's weak shot saved by Lewis.

However the Seasiders were left heartbroken when their defence was finally breached with three minutes remaining as Jarvis atoned for his earlier miss to slot home Mike George's low cross after Robbie Patten's throughball had penetrated the visiting defence.

With seconds remaining the visitors almost snatched an equaliser only for Geoff Kellaway to be denied by the woodwork as Barry held out to claim the points and ensure a battling Aberystwyth went home empty handed.
