Bowls season could yet be held in 2021 insist organisers

THE Welsh Bowling Association has not given up hope on the summer season yet.

While a host of leagues and events have already conceded defeat in their battles to run this season, the Welsh Bowling Association (WBA) has insisted it is still too soon to surrender all hope and continues to monitor the situation.

However the British International Bowling Championship, scheduled for Llandrindod Wells, has been cancelled.

A meeting of WBA confirmed the decision to cancel the season would only be taken at a later date.

A spokesman said: It was agreed that as things stand at present it is too early to decide on what the season will look like.

“A calendar of events with the season commencing at the start of May with the national finals taking place at Llandrindod Wells from August 6-17 is currently in place.

“Should the start of the season be delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions then the Welsh Bowling Association has in place an alternative calendar of events with the season commencing at the start of June and the national finals taking place at Llandrindod Wells from September 10-20.

“Officers of the Welsh Bowling Association will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation and will make whatever changes are deemed necessary to ensure that bowlers are given every opportunity to compete this season.

“The Welsh Bowling Association is working in conjunction with Bowls Wales and the Welsh Government to ensure that when bowls do return in Wales it will do so safely and within the guidelines set out by the Government.

“The Welsh Bowling Association will publish regular updates on our website to ensure that both clubs and bowlers are kept abreast of latest position and any decisions that are taken.”
