WELSHPOOL Dominoes League honoured the stars of the season with trophy presentations held at the Green Dragon Inn.

The presentations were held in September between Welsh national lockdowns.

League chairman Keith Lewis and secretary John Harding were also honoured with Westwood Park Hotel landlord Tich Turner making presentations to both on behalf of all pub landlords whose pubs host games in recognition of 50 years service.

The second division was won by Welshpool’s Green Dragon with the team of Mike Harding, Keith Bonner, Ian Jones, Brian Evans, Kevin Taylor, Stuart Jones and Ian Villis.

The Green Dragon also won the doubles with Mike Harding and Brian Evans triumphant.

John Harding presented the award for most individual wins to Eric Lunt of the Raven.

Meanwhile the Angel Dragons won the team knock out.

This season the team was represented by Sharon Thomas, Gwyneth Edwards, Dave Manuel, Roger Chapman, Graham Roberts and Steve Wright.

Most wins in the first division went to Steve George of The Cock of Forden with the late Nick Thomas of The Angel winning most games in division two .

The league – like every other aspect of social and sporting life in Wales – was impacted by the coronavirus and ongoing rolling lockdowns which included the closure or partial closure of public houses.

It is hoped with the roll out of a vaccine across the country the venues for the popular pastime will soon be deemed safe once more.
