Cardiff Met 2 Newtown 1

NEWTOWN made the long trip home from the capital empty handed following defeat at Cardiff Metropolitan tonight.

The Robins suffered a nightmare start at Cyncoed and trailed after five minutes with Elliot Evans' diving header giving goalkeeper Dave Jones no chance.

However Newtown hit bac to level just two minutes later with Jack Kelly heading home following a corner.

Three minutes later and the Archers regained their lead with Evans completing his double with a 20 yard volley.

Jones denied Evans his hat-trick on 21 minutes before Ryan Edwards skipped through the home defence only to be denied by goalkeeper Alex Lang.

Newtown gradually got on top but could not make their possession count.

The Robins maintained their dominance after the break, seeing an effort ruled offside before Tyrone Ofori fired wide.

The second-half became saw.Oliver Hulbert head wide before Liam Warman was released by Rhydian Morgan only to see his shot deflected wide by Craig Williams.

A dominant Newtown produced wave after wave of attacks but could not find a route through the resolute home defence as the Archers held firm for glory and extended Newtown's poor run of form as they slipped further in the JD Cymru Premier rankings going into Christmas.
