Abermule's Ben Higgins finished an impressive fifth overall in the British TKM Kart Championship finale in Grantham.

After a difficult shortened season due to coronavirus and very little testing, Ben showed his speed to win the first heat and finish second in the next to put him on pole position for the first pre final .

Race one was helped by a gamble to wet tyres when most of field took a dry tyre while the following race was completely dry and Ben showed his skills in both conditions to take the lead from fifth on the grid up until the last lap when he made a small mistake and drifted wide, crossing the line in second place.

The finals proved to be more difficult and after fighting at the front was caught up in a frenzied fight having the top eight karts split by two seconds .

After a top eight finish Ben started in eighth for the final and after a tight battle finished fifth overall and secured fifth place in the British championship.

Ben said: "We started this season hoping for a top 10 finish which would give us a seeded number, to get fifth after such a difficult season is fantastic and believe I have made some big steps forward for the future.

"A big Thankyou to our team Klaassen Motorsport and sponsors Dirtfish Rally Schools and Eddie Stobarts."
