FOOTBALL clubs in the Ardal North Wales League have called for their season to be cancelled unless it begins in January.

A survey carried out by the Ardal North Wales League saw 'a majority' of the 23 clubs who participated in the poll agree on the January deadline.

The newly established third tier league, comprising of 32 clubs split geographically across north and mid Wales, has yet to receive a starting date for the season due to ongoing lockdown restrictions.

Clubs have also agreed the season should not start without the return of spectators to fixtures with clubs reporting financial concerns – particularly the payment of match officials and ground hire.

Clubs agreed to ensure all safety protocols to protect players and the public from the spread of coronavirus would be met while calling for more information.

Clubs also agreed pre-season could take place over two Satyrday's ahead of the start of the season.

However the clubs questioned what format would be adopted next season and whether promotion, relegation and cups would be contested.

Several clubs suggested playing games at alternative grounds in midweek to complete fixtures and asked whether the Football Association of Wales (FAW) or league would pay the costs.

Clubs also expressed concerns over their reduced strength with several reporting the loss of players during Welsh football's long hiatus.

Clubs have also asked whether the FAW would carry over registration fees should the league be abandoned.
