Moulder stars in Castle win

Bishop's Castle 165-6 beat Montgomery IIs 102-6 by 63 runs

BISHOP'S Castle ended their Wales and West League season with a 63 run win at home to derby rivals Montgomery IIs.

The home side laid solid foundations with s bright top order display as Tom Moulder (38), Jonathan Price (36) and Jack Perry (22) impressed.

However Castle could not build on their solid start and it was left to Paul Cottrell (13) and Richard Fifield (21no) to guide Castle to 165-6 to defend.

Joe Haycock (2-38) was the pick of the Monty attack with William Kinsey (1-21), captain David Jones (1-24), Ryan Blayney (1-27) and Alex Haycock (1-27) also among the wickets as Monty ensured themselves chasing a reachable target.

Veteran Simon Palmer (2-12) struck early in reply as Castle refused to allow Monty time to settle at the crease.

Wickets continued to tumble as Caitlin Perry (1-9) struck while David Thomas was run out by Rhys Evans.

Matthew Jones and Joe Haycock offered defiance and looked to steady the ship before Jones was caught by Perry off Tomos Evans (1-5) for a top scoring 48 while the impressive Haycock (20) fell to Cottrell (1-32).

Blayney (7no) and Kinsey (2no) formed an unbroken seventh wicket stand to guide Monty to 102-6 but fell well short of their target.

The result ensured Castle a third place finish in a competitive Wales and West League while Monty end the summer in fourth.
