CHAZ Davies celebrated his first win of the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) season in Spain last weekend.

The Presteigne star was in top form to top the podium in race two at the Montmelo circuit Barcelona.

Davies enjoyed a stellar weekend which saw him end race one in third spot behind Ducati team-mate Scott Redding with Jonathan Rea of Kawasaki taking top spot.

However race two was all about Davies who saw off the challenge of his rivals to toast his first race win of the campaign and Ducati’s fifth.

Davies said: “It was a great race.

“The feeling is that we managed to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

“Maybe we did it a bit late but the important thing is to have achieved this goal.

“I would like to thank my team who also worked late last night to fix some things on the set up that worked out great.

“The race pace was very good since the first laps and this allowed me to stay in the lead to manage the race. I am really very satisfied.”

Davies also spoke of his struggles in race one despite ending third.

He said: “Unfortunately the grip problems I had in qualifying forced me to start far behind on the grid but the first two laps were very good and I managed to make a good comeback.

“In the first part of the race, however, the race pace was not enough incisive to try to reduce the gap with the leading group.

Despite this result, Scott Redding is still in the race for the Superbike World Championship even if, two rounds from the end, his gap from Jonathan Rea is now 51 points.

Meanwhile Davies consolidates his third place with 188 points

Davies can afford no rest and heads to the seventh round, the Pirelli French round on October 2-4 with confidence.
