TWO mid Wales mountain bike stars have been called up for Great Britain.

Llangynog’s Rachel Atherton and Llanfyllin’s Tahnee Seagrave will both link up with the Great Britain squad for the forthcoming UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Austria

Atherton needs no introduction as one of the stars of world cycling and a five time world champion.

Meanwhile Seagrave is a former junior world champion with two world championship silver medals to her name.

Performance director Stephen Park said: “The Great Britain team has a history of success in downhill mountain bike and, while it isn’t an Olympic discipline, it still provides a great sense of pride and inspiration.

“I think this year’s downhill championships has the makings of another successful year for British downhill riders. Looking through the team, there is a lot of talent, experience and consistently strong results while it’s good news to have both Tahnee Seagrave and Rachel Atherton back from injury and ready to race.”
