Newtown 154-9 lost to Bomere Heath 159 all out by five runs
NEWTOWN are the John Rees Group champions.
The mid Wales club's season long unbeaten run came to an end in a five run defeat at home to Bomere Heath but it was not enough to deny Newtown the title.
Heath began brightly with Henry Preece and Charles Wigley forming a 45 run opening wicket stand before the latter snared LBW by Craig Davies (1-29) for 16.
Joe Monk (3-20) restricted the Heath top order with Preece caught by Ryan Davies for 28 before Harry Bolland (7) departed and Harry Gregson caught by Ally Laird for six.
Laird completed the demise of the top order by running out Adam Vanner for nine.
However Heath's middle order pairing of Ben Cox and Ryan Davies combined to push their side to 126-6 when Cox trapped LBW by Twm Foulkes (1-12) for 21.
Sa, Cooke (4-24) blitzed the tail end in a superb bowling display with Davies (24no) guiding Heath to 159 to defend.
Newtown struggled in reply, losing openers John Anthony (30) and Sam Morris (2) in quick succession.
Ricky Davies looked to build a partnership only for Jamie Dean to strike, snaring Ryan Davies and Tom Anderson LBW to complete his 3-16 and leave Town 51-4.
Davies was joined by Foulkes in a 56 run fifth wicket partnership to steady the ship before Foulkes was run out by Wigley for 26.
Davies finally departed, caught by Vanner off Cox with Town 117-7.
Captain Laird (18no) looked to pin together the tail end to push Town over the line and maintain his side's unbeaten record but Cox (3-34) struck with Newtown ending five runs short on 154-9.
