TNS 3
ADRIAN Cieslewicz starred as TNS opened their campaign with a resounding victory at Barry Town United.
Barry came into the contest on the back of a Europa Cup defeat in the Faroe Islands and it was Faroes raised Cieslewicz who starred at Jenner Park to give the Saints a perfect send off ahead of their own midweek trip to the north Atlantic island.
Ryan Brobbel went close with a sixth minute free-kick before the home side threatened as Curtis Jemmett-Hutson came close to connecting with a dangerous cross.
Barry continued to press with Chris Hugh and Luke Cummings deliveries keeping the Saints defence on its toes
TNS struggled to carve their own openings with their best chance of the first-half arriving in the 34th minute with Jamie Mullan setting up Dean Ebbe who fired wide.
The Saints introduced Keston Davies and Ben Clark at the break and the changes soon paid dividends as Cieslewicz cut inside from the left and curled a shot beyond the reach of home goalkeeper Mike Lewis.
TNS were denied a second goal on the hour with Cieslewicz ruled offside after converting a loose ball after Lewis had denied Mullan.
Moments later TNS were briefly reduced to 10 men when Keston Davies received a second caution only for referee Dean John to rescind the red after realising the offender to be Jon Routledge who earned a yellow card.
The Saints doubled their lead soon after with Mullan setting up Leo Smith to strike.
It was all over with 12 minutes remaining as Routledge released Cieslewicz to lob and an advancing Lewis as TNS completed a resounding opening day win.
