Newtown 126-5 beat Pontesbury 125 all out by five wickets

NEWTOWN'S march toward the John Rees Group title continued with a comfortable five wicket win at home to Pontesbury.

Tom Anderson led the Town attack with opener Dan Walker caught by Sam Cooke for nine while Owen Morris was caught and bowled for 21.

Craig Davies ran out Emily Churms (4) as the Pontesbury order continued to collapse with Joe Monk (3-25) striking to dislodge James Moss (5) and Matthew Hartshorn (20) before Davies (1-24) removed James Churms, caught by Anderson for one.

Robbie Hartshorn (24) and Matt Ramsay (21) offered defiance before both fell to Anderson to complete his 4-25 with Dave Anthony (1-21) polishing off tail end resistance with Rory McGoldrick bowled for a duck to leave Pontesbury all out fir just 125.

Newtown lost opener Sam Morris, snared LBW for a duck by Matt Ramsay (1-29), in reply.

However John Anthony (32) and Ricky Davies (17) set about building an innings before bot fell to James Churms (2-30).

Ryan Davies anchored himself in to push Town toward their target with brief partnerships alongside Anderson (5) and Twm Foulkes (7) with the latter duo falling to Owen Morris (2-17).

Davies (34no) was joined by Cooke (13no) in an unbroken sixth wicket stand to guide Town to 126-5 and glory in the 32nd over.
