CHRIS Venables fired Bala Town to a dream victory over Maltese side Valletta last week.

The former Caersws and Welshpool Town star was just one of the heroes as the Lakesiders ended their Europa League hoodoo in the Maltese capital to book a second qualifying round clash with Belgian giants Standard Liege.

Venables was not the only mid Wales based star in the ranks of Lakesiders.

Former Llanfyllin High School students Alex Ramsay and Will Evans also made their debuts and made a massive impression with Ramsay making a penalty save to ensure his side sealed their progress.

Ramsay joined Bala last month from Caernarfon Town while Evans, of Llangedwyn, joined from Cardiff Metropolitan.

Evans said: “I am thrilled to achieve such a big win in the early days with Bala. The preparation and attitude prior to the match was spot on, so to be rewarded with such a big game like this is very exciting. I can’t wait.”
