Newtown IIs 103-4 beat Bishop’s Castle 102 all out by six wickets

NEWTOWN IIs produced a shock six wicket win at home to Bishop’s Castle at the Elephant and Castle Recreation Ground.

Castle struggled for runs and lost openers Tom Moulder (12) and Will Middleton (15) as Griff Davies (1-18) and Brandon Baynham struck.

Baynham completed his 2-18 with Jack Perry caught by Richard Smout for just nine as Castle continued to struggle to work the scoreboard.

Paul Hawthorn starred as Richard Fifield was caught by Reino De Klerk for nine before Josh Mills (8), Alfie Green (0), Simon Green and Satch Norton (2) fell to complete his 5-12.

George Rayment offered tail end resistance before being caught by Smout off Matt Humphreys (1-15) for 19 to complete Castle’s fall for 102.

Ian Hancocks led the Town reply with an opening knock of 19 before being caught by Rayment off Simon Palmer who completed his 2-15 with Callum Foulkes caught by Norton for a duck.

Caitlin Perry (2-14) maintained pressure with Iwan Smout caught by Rayment for nine and Fifield catching Ralph Barraclough for four.

However Town were not to be denied with Humphreys (46no) joined by Smout (9no) in an unbroken fifth wicket stand to steer their side to 103-4 and victory in the 27th over.
