BUILTH Wells opened the Marches League season in style with a six wicket win at home to Garnons.

Henry Edwards (2-26) and Mike Williams (2-20) ensured Garnons' top end no respite with the latter including Giles Scott, snared LBW for 16, in his haul.

Sam Williams maintained the pressure with Andrew Matthews caught by Ezra Tattersall for 17 before Alan Jones was caught by Tim Richards off Richard Davies (2-24) for 12.

James Bolton (33no) and Carl Lewis revived the Garnons tail end with spirited defiance before the latter fell to Williams (2-29) for 47 to complete the visitors demise for 156.

Builth founded their victory on a 52 run second wicket stand between Aled Powell and Williams which ended when Powell fell to James Gittins for a top scoring 47.

Dylan McPhee (21) joined Williams (43) in a 42 run third wicket partnership before both fell in quick succession to leave Builth on 118-4.

It was left to Richards (19no) and Tattersall (13no) to firm an unbroken fifth wicket stand to guide the home side to 157-4 and victory in the 21st over.

Meanwhile Presteigne and Builth Wells shared the points in a drawn match in group five.

Paul Rowe (47) and Martin Hurst (43) led the Bulls top order with Jon Corzon (27) and Steffan Towns (27) offering middle order knocks to guide Builth to 198 to defend.

Kleiser (22) led the home reply before Hurst (3-9) and Ian Morgan (2-61) struck to leave Presteigne wobbling.

However James Chilman (92) was joined by Alan Stocker (23) in reviving the middle order with Fred Chilman (12no) guiding Presteigne to 194-8 and a draw.
