Newtown 316-5 beat Pontesbury 214-8 by 102 runs
NEWTOWN maintained their unbeaten start to the first division season with a commanding victory at Pontesbury.
John Anthony starred alongside Sam Morris in a superb opening wicket partnership before the latter fell to James Churms for 35.
Churms completed his 2-72 with Ricky Davies (1) departing cheaply.
Anthony was finally removed, caught and bowled by Owen Morris (1-31), for a top scoring 80.
Newtown's middle order took up the fight with Ryan Davies chipping in with 36 before departing to Matt Smart (1-59).
Tom Anderson and Twm Foulkes formed a fruitful fifth wicket partnership to work the scoreboard before Anderson fell to James Moss (1-47) for 56.
Foulkes maintained his bright form with his 75no guiding his side to a commanding 316-5 at close.
Anderson (3-20) set down a marker early on as Matt Hartshorn and Darrell Corfield fell cheaply before Morris (17) departed.
While Chris Edwards looked to revive the middle order the home side continued to lose wickets as Ally Laird (1-45) toppled Moss for 27 while John Anthony (3-38) made light work of Smart (6), Allister Corfield (8) and Robbie Hartshorn (11).
Edwards ended unbeaten on 107 with the run out of Churms (11) ending Pontesbury's challenge on 214-8.
