FOOTBALL fans across mid Wales have been handed a morale boost with confirmation last season's cup competitions will be completed.

The Central Wales Cup was at the semi-final stage while the Emrys Morgan Cup had one remaining quarter-final to play when last season was curtailed due to the global coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

However with restrictions now easing the remaining ties will be contested.

A Central Wales Football Association spokesman confirmed the outstanding Central Wales Cup and Emrys Morgan Cup ties would now be scheduled ahead of the start of next season which remains without a date.

A spokesman said: "At the moment we don't have any firm dates but provisionally we are looking at the fortnight before the new season is due to commence."

The news comes as massive boost to Guilsfield Football Club who were in contention for a clean sweep of regional cup honours when last season was curtailed.

Now the Guils first team can prepare for a semi-final against JD Cymru North rivals Llanidloes Town in the Central Wales Cup with Berriew and Penrhyncoch to go head to head in the other final four meeting.

Meanwhile the outstanding quarter-final between Newcastle and Brecon Corinthians will take place in the Emrys Morgan Cup.

The winners will go on to face Guilsfield Reserves in the semi-final while Cardigan Town and Tregaron Turfs will meet in the other semi clash.
