Montgomery 195-6 lost to Sentinel IIs 199-3

MONTGOMERY opened their campaign with a seven wicket defeat at Sentinel IIs in Shrewsbury and West League Two.

The visitors won the toss and opened brightly with Tom Corfield and Tim Davies combing in an opening wicket 43 run stand before Corfield departed, caught by Connor Cheshire off Shane Gwilt (1-21) for 21.

Davies was joined by youngster Lennon Bryan in a 62 run second wicket partnership before being caught by Niall Salisbury off Iain Howard (1-28) for 47.

Bryan and Aaron Ruff-Cock upped the run rate with a 75 run third wicket stand before the latter was bowled by Alex Johnson (1-33) for 46 before Bryan was run out for a top scoring 53 to leave Monty on a healthy 191-4.

However the middle order gave way under pressure from Salisbury (2-10) to leave Monty defending 195-6.

In reply the visitors removed Salisbury cheaply through Ed Bennett before Corfield caught Marc Lovelock off Tom Hughes (1-26) for 34 to leave Sentinel on 66-2.

However Sentinel kept the scoreboard ticking with opener Cheshire joined by John Leah in a 109 third run stand.

Cheshire was finally removed, snared LBW by Bennett (2-44) for 77 to leave Leah (70no) to guide the hosts to 199-3 and victory in the 36th over.
