WELSHPOOL Rugby Club will reform its under 19s side next season.

The Maesydre club confirmed the news this week and invited all aspiring players to make contact as the club plot its return to action following months of lockdown restrictions.

Spokesman Dai Roberts said: “We have been without an under 19s side for several years now.

“We know there are players looking to play and we feel perhaps there may well be an increase in the demand for sport after this lockdown period.

“We want to ensure that we are able to offer sport and social interaction to all groups within our community.

“To that end we will run two senior men’s teams, a women’s team, an under 19s boys team, our Rebels team offering rugby for girls and our Welshpool Warriors side for players aged from six to 16.”

The revival of the club’s under 19s side is also a massive boost to the region’s rugby provision with Newtown, COBRA and Builth Wells the only other clubs in Powys operating under 19s sides in a Welsh Rugby Union (WRIU) organised league.
