MACHYNLLETH Football Club enter the new season full of optimism.

Attendances have increased and a growing affinity between the townspeople and the club ensure the Maglonians can rely on patriotic home support next season.

Machynlleth has a rich footballing pedigree, reaching three Welsh Amateur Cup finals.

Having lost in the 1901, the first mid Wales club to reach the final, the Maglonians won the cup in 1931.

The club entered the Mid Wales League in 1932 before resigning in 1936.

The club returned in 1950 and competed in the Mid Wales League for 20 years until resigning in 1971 and following a season in the Aberystwyth League folded for a season.

Machynlleth reformed in 1974 and in 1978 rejoined the Mid Wales League until relegation in 1980.

The club continued to yo-yo between the Mid Wales League and Aberystwyth League until 1992 when the Maglonians enjoyed their most successful era.

Three consecutive Mid Wales League titles between 1993 and 1995 saw the club dominate local football only to resign from the league two years later.

The club returned to the Mid Wales League in 2012 and won promotion to the first division in 2014 where the Maglonians remained for four years before relegation in 2019.

Under manager Luke Vince-Holt the club enjoyed a bright season in the second division last season before the campaign was curtailed.
