BERRIEW Football Club have spent the summer preparing for next season and long term.

The development of a reserve side will see the club boast a pathway from junior to senior level from next season.

The village club has a long and proud history in mid Wales football having first risen to prominence in the 1960s under ex-Stoke City star George Antonio.

In the modern era the club has spent much of its existence in the Mid Wales League having returned to that level from the Montgomeryshire League in 1992 and despite four years spent in the Montgomeryshire League, Mid Wales League football returned in 2003.

The Rhiewiders spent one season in the Cymru Alliance 2010 only to be relegated as part of a national pyramid restructure.

Since the club has remained in the Mid Wales League and enjoyed success under the management of David Jones, including league cup success.

Jones said: "We are delighted to be part of the new tier three league.

"We are looking forward to a mixture of good local derbies and some new opponents from the Wrexham area league so it’s shaping up to be an exciting season."
