RHAYADER Town Football Club hope to represent Radnorshire in the new third tier next season.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) restructure will see four regional leagues set-up at the third tier of the pyramid.

The Red Kites have applied to make the step up but the prospect of promotion to the new Mid Wales League East, also set for launch next season, also appeals to the club.

With their Weirglodd home a former top flight venue the club has not had to undertake any groundwork to meet criteria and instead await confirmation from the FAW.

Club spokesman Dai Davies confirmed the club passed its ground inspection in January.

“We will be happy whichever tier we are placed,” said Davies. “We would love to make tier three but we are in a good place with a young squad willing to work and progress at Rhayader to push the club as far up the pyramid we can.

“We have a proud history of football in the town and willing to work hard on and off the pitch to be the best we can.”
